Storm Preparation

We’ve been very fortunate in the past couple of years, and we’re still hoping for the best this Hurricane Season. With Tropical Storm Isaac approaching, it’s always better to “be safe than sorry”. Making a hurricane plan ahead of time can go a long way, saving you a lot of stress and time.

Some of the basic supplies that you will need are:

  • Food, at least a three-day supply of non-perishable food
  • Manual can opener for food
  • Battery-powered or hand crank radio and a NOAA Weather Radio with tone alert and extra batteries for both
  • Flashlight/Lantern and extra batteries
  • First aid kit
  • Whistle to signal for help
  • Dust mask to help filter contaminated air and plastic sheeting and duct tape to shelter-in-place
  • Moist towelettes, garbage bags and plastic ties for personal sanitation
  • Wrench or pliers to turn off utilities
  • Generators, Surge Protectors, and Power Inverters
  • Local maps
  • Cell phone with chargers, inverter or solar charger
